The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Dr. Ado Abdullahi Bayero has died.
Bayero, a former Ambassador to Senegal has been the Emir since 1963. He ascended the throne when Muhammadu Sanusi, his half brother was dethroned and Inuwa who succeeded him reigned for only three months.
Ado Bayero’s reign remains one of the longest in the history of the Kano Emirate.
He had earlier worked as a bank clerk for the British Bank of West Africa after which he won a seat in the Northern Regional House of Assembly in 1954. He also joined the Kano Native Police Authority which he headed till 1962.
He was 83 years old.
