His death comes only 10 days after his band mate, Otis 'Damon' Harris, who died on 18 February aged 62, after a 14 year battle with prostate cancer.

He performed with the band until 1993 when he left due to alleged personal tensions with Williams.

BREAKING news: Bomb-blast In Maiduguri As APC Hold Meeting

Witnesses say several bombs have exploded in a northeastern Nigeria city which is hosting a meeting of opposition political parties.

The blasts happened Thursday afternoon in the city of Maiduguri, long under assault by a radical Islamic sect known as Boko Haram. A security official said he believed some soldiers were killed in the blasts, but did not have any other information. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to journalists.

The All Progressives Congress, a recently announced amalgam of opposition parties in Nigeria, was holding a meeting Thursday in the city that had drawn powerful politicians.
Meanwhile, police in the eastern state of Taraba said foreigners working for a construction company escaped a kidnapping attempt Wednesday night that killed two police officers.

Album Review : Banky W – R&BW

Banky W - R&BW
It was quite a good “W” experience we have had for four years isn’t it? If you ask me, it was a very good one. I have waited for his next album for two years. You know that feeling when your favorite nigerian R&B drops a single, and you are eager about his forthcoming album? Yep, Banky W is that guy. The high from his previous album four years ago didn’t fade off, but rather it went higher than expected.

After listening to that album for the first time, my first reaction was “Wow”. I didn’t feel the need to skip any songs on the first run. Albums like that don’t come too often these days. This album, on first listen gives a similar feeling.

Banky W is no stranger in making good music and from the looks of it he took his time in giving us another solid album.

We’ll be walking this review in story mode.
1. The Way: In every journey, there is always a first step. Starting off the album, Mr W takes the first step and shows us the way the album will be going. He sings about a girl he likes and his infatuation with “her way”. Seems like the type of woman he is describing has that type of body Toolz has *chuckles*. Solid song. Good way to start the love album. 8/10

2. Good Good Loving: What’s next when you love the ways of a woman, and everything about her? Good Good Loving is the best thing if you want to keep her. This song was one of the lead singles prior to the album release. A Perfect valentine’s song, I’m sure a lot of men played this track to their woman on valentines day. Beautiful music. 8.5/10

3. Magic Ft. Skales: You know there is that one girl you set your eyes on at the club, and you will fall in love at first sight. As a real man, he walked up to her to tell her how he really feels. She looks like magic, setting the mood right. Overall the song is good. I love Skales’ delivery on it.  8/10

4. Find You: I’m not sure he got contact with the girl he met at the club because this song goes into full on search mode for this girl.Maybe a search team might work in finding that girl.. Like he said, “It’s hard to fall in love, until i find you, i won’t settle” This love dilemma is crazy, but hey good music. 7/10

5. Yes/No:  I think the search team did a great job finding her and Mr W has no time to waste. He has to pop that question before she disappears again. “Would You Be My Lover?” was that question, and he needs answers right away. Beautiful track that really kicked off anticipation for the album. I’m sure you have watched the video also; Just as nice. 9/10

6. Lowkey: I guess a lot of people are not happy with his relationship with this said “Angel”, and naturally the next thing is to go low-key. It’s the best way to keep their names away from jealous people, nobody has to know. If You ask me, Lowkey is the best way for Under G things *chuckles*. 8/10

7.Do It To Me: This is another of my favorite tracks on the album. Banky W’s girl can sure dance, because he likes the way she grinds and whines upon him and i pray he doesn’t go crazy. The track will do a lot of good on some one on one grind P. 9/10

8.Be My Lover Ft. Niyola: This Love for this particular girl is very strong. So strong that we get a part of the Yes/No strong. I’m just imagining the type of woman she is. The joint extends what we already liked about the first version and Niyola on the track makes it even more lovable. Good production also. 8.5/10

9.Say Ft. Shaydee & Rotimi Love is crazy I tell you. Banky W continues to express his love to this one particular girl. I don’t have to mention that this track is so soothing… Pure R&B if you will. Shaydee and Rotimi’s delivery on this track were perfect. Banky W picked the right singers to hop on this track. A song you can cuddle to this. :) 9/10

10. Past My Past Ft. Shaydee I think the girl is asking about his past, the girls he loved. Girls are always curios you know, before they get too deep and they can’t get out. He’s assuring her no problems, she should forget her past. You know when a guy confess to you, he is real. This love is sweet o . Another beautiful delivery from shaydee. 9/10

11. To My Unborn Child Ft. Lynxxx: Banky is already thinking of his Unborn child after he has his dream Girl. This is the best track i have listened to this year, singing to your unborn child is the cutest thing ever. I guess Banky W’s woman is pregnant with a girl, “To My Unborn Child” Makes sense right ? Lynxxx’s delivery on this song is pure class, everything about this track is beautiful. 10/10

- What a sweet love story right? He met a girl, liked her way, wants to give her Good Loving, for some reason he felt she was using Magic on him. She left, he sent a search team to Find Her. After finding her, he proposed immediately before she flees again; but people dis-like their relationship , it has to be Low key.

Still love stuck by her, he wanted her to continue doing what she is doing to him. The Love was mutual, they are lovers, but his love for her is very strong; he keep saying it. The Girl was convinced about his past, she asked few questions, but he told her to leave the past where it is. His Girl is now convinced, apparently she is carrying his unborn child, twins i think. What a good story line *chuckles*. I am pretty sure that was not Mr W’s plan on the album, but it’s my interpretation.

Back to the few tracks Left….

12. Africa & Proud Ft. Sarkodie, Camp Mulla, L-Tido & Vector: He brought that “Lagos Party” vibe he gave on his last album. This time it’s an african thing, not just a lagos thing. We have the best deliveries from your favorite african rappers on this one. Could have been the perfect track for the african cup of nations theme song. Great track, 9/10

13.Never Let You Go: Another love song with an up-tempo beat. You can’t go wrong singing and dancing this to the woman you love. It will make her happy. Good production, beautiful music. 8.5/10

14.Good Good Loving Ft Tuface Idibia: I don’t think there is any track out there that has 2face Idibia on it, and you won’t love it. Good Good Loving itself is a great track, 2BABA doing the remix makes it better. 9/10

15. More Ft M.I & Eldee: The delivery from M.I and Eldee on this track is pure class. If you ask me, I prefer eldee’s delivery better. Honestly, I think M.I and Eldee should make an album together, their combination seems perfect. Love this track, 9/10

16. Mercy: I called this track a “mouth watery track” because i wanted more, but i have to go back to track 1. He is asking for God’s Mercy, has committed a lot of sins. Seems like Mr W has mastered the art of rapping, he sounds better than some rappers. A lovely track to close the curtains on this album, Good music also. 9.5/10

Banky W has always been more mature than his peers when it comes to music making especially in R&B, but in this album he takes it a step further by widening that gap between him and “the others.” This album doesn’t lack in originality and freshness.

Like any other album it has its misses, but even those could be highlights on other albums, but all in all R&BW is a great album, and one that is as close to his “The W experience” album in terms of originality. After listening to this, it’s hard to go back and listen to the more generic sounds that have flooded the Nigerian music industry lately.

Iyanya Vs Desire – A product of its environment [Album Review]

 IyanyaArtist- Iyanya
Album- Iyanya Vs Desire
Features- M.I, Tekno, Yung L, Flavour, May D, Emma Nyra, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Vector and D’Banj
Producers- D’Tunes, Tee-Y Mix, Gospel On D Beatz, Laxio Beats, Mr. Chido and Young D
Label- Made Men Music Group (2013)
Running Time- 47 minutes

The music business is the survival of the fittest. Iyanya’s biceps might have ladies hot and bothered on Instagram but his ripped body like that of the gladiator’s isn’t the reason why he is topping the charts. After the release of his critically acclaimed (but not commercially successful) debut album My Story he ditched the R&B genre for something more lucrative- pop.

Men lie, women lie but numbers don’t. Iyanya’s first foray into pop music, the highly infectious ‘Kukere’ was a monster hit. He followed it with the hypnotic ‘Ur Waist’ produced by D’Tunes. ‘Ur Waist’ not only scored him another hit but it also ignited the (non-existent) love triangle- Iyanya, Ghana actress Yvonne Nelson and Nollywood’s baddest girl- Tonto Dike.

After finally getting fame and money with pop songs that have so much to do with the beat and melody than the lyrics a few hopefuls think that Iyanya would go back to his first love- R&B. If you believe that Iyanya is going back to Rhythm and Blues, then Iyanya Vs. Desire isn’t for you.

Most of the 19 tracks on the sophomore album are engineered to suit the current climate of Nigerian music- let the beat pound and let every other thing take a back seat. Straight-out-of-the-gate bangers like his first two singles don’t exist on IVD but rather they follow the slow but later enchanting ‘Flavour’- the third single.

Ekaette’ is one of such tracks. Iyanya name drops footballers on the track which features Tekno. Thanks to the guitar on the hook the song has prospects. It has its endearing moments but the auto-tune-drenched name calling at the end isn’t one of them. Iyanya gets the Eastern flavour on ‘Marry Me’ produced by Mr. Chido. The Project Fame winner has learnt to sprinkle rhythmic phrases on his songs to help spice it up. ‘Marry Me’ has this and sounds like a winner.

Iyanya proves he is no one trick pony when he ventures into dancehall. On the LP’s opener ‘Bad Man’ featuring M.I he sings on his rise ‘me- a don dada/all of them father/hustled my way to the top and no ladder/going in harder/no one else badder.’  On the dancehall experiment ‘Some More’ featuring Yung L is the real gem. Produced by D’Tunes, ‘Some More’ sounds ready for radio. Iyanya’s foray into EDM (European Dance Music) on ‘Drowning’ produced by Tee-Y Mix is a knocker.

Iyanya shows flashes of his old self on ‘Your Man’ featuring Vector. His R&B voice is back as he promises that special lady that he will give her that good loving. But the real R&B showcase is on ‘I Gat It’. Iyanya rolls back the years on the song peppered with amorous Spanish phrases. Lines like “dem girls wan tear me up/na you girl I choose- ’I wan love you up/I be the man wey go treat you right…you lingerie and tings, I will tear it up‘ reflects Iyanya’s new populist approach to doing music.

Sexy Mama’ featuring Wizkid is pretty much standard fare with Wizzy dropping the same lines. Even though it has dance appeal it generally lacks creativity. ‘Whine’ featuring May D could have been a better song minus the pedestrian lyrics.

This pretty much sums up IVD. The songs are built to suit the current trend of songs with well polished hooks and beats but sloppy verses. You can’t entirely blame Iyanya- he is a product of his environment, a man bent on surviving this era of flashy songs that have no redeeming qualities.

So on his sophomore, Iyanya gets the job done, releasing a fast food product dripping with enough melodies to whine your waists for days. But fast food doesn’t keep you satisfied for long, the hunger comes back and you wish you had eaten something more filling.

Iyanya Vs. Desire is a pop driven LP aimed at pleasing a demography that loves beats and dance, at the expense of lyrics. When it’s all said and done, IVD is nothing more than a product of the times we live in.

2-Year-Old Boy Electrocuted In Osun

A serious clash between staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and and some residents of Ibala area of Ilesa town in Osun State has been averted by men of A Divisional Police Headquaters of Osun State police command after a two-year-old boy, Hassan Oluwalarami Badmus  was electrocuted.
It was gathered that before the incident occurred last Friday, a woman, Madam Temilade Obembe of No 5a, Ibala Road, Ilesa had reported to a PHCN staff, whose name was given as Taofeek, that a live wire had fallen on the ground inside her compound.
The woman alleged that the said staff took no immediate action but asked her to look for someone to fold the live wire pending the time the company would come to rectify the situation.
She added that because of the inherent danger in what she was asked to do, she awaited the coming of the PHCN staff to take care of the situation before going to her shop at the timber market in the town for business activities.
Mrs Obembe said she was recalled from her shop to her residence, only to see that her two-year-old grandson, had been electrocuted.
Eyewitness account had it  that the late Hassan had playfully touched the live wire and died immediately as a result of electrocution.
Nigerian Tribune further gathered that when the news of Hassan’s death spread in the town, some irate youths, the majority of who were residents of Ibala area wanted to attack the PHCN control room in Ilesa, to avenge the death of the child.
Many of them were said to have expressed the opinion that the occurrence would have been averted if the PHCN staff had promptly yielded to the call of the woman.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, DSP Folasade Odoro, said that on hearing  the news, the state Commissioner of Police, Mrs Dorothy Gimba, drafted policemen from ‘A’ Division, Ilesa to avert the crisis and maintain peace in the area.

Sickening video emerged today of South African police officers tying a man to their van and dragging him through the streets.

Mido Macia, 27, was found dead in police custody just two hours after being arrested for the parking dispute in the Daveyton township.

The incident brings fresh embarrassment to the country's criminal justice system which is under intense international scrutiny due to the high profile Oscar Pistorius murder trial.

Officers slammed one of the van doors in the taxi driver's face, leaving him covered in blood.

Mr Macia was heard begging officers to stop the assault.

The victim -  a Mozambican immigrant - was found dead in a police cell just over two hours later.

The taxi driver's distraught family said all he had done was argue with the police over an alleged parking violation.

The incident comes after South African police officers shot and killed 34 striking workers at the Marikana mine in August last year.

Mr Macia was arrested at a marketplace in the Daveyton township outside Johannesburg at 6.50pm on Tuesday.

According to witnesses had been beeping his taxi's horn to attract passengers when police arrived.

[Police] argued with Macia and then they beat him up', an anonymous witness told South Africa's Daily Sun newspaper, which first revealed the scandal.
'They handcuffed him to the back of the van and slammed the door in his face. With blood running down his face they drove off.

'He was in pain, he cried and asked the cops to stop but they continued anyway.'
This morning, South Africa's Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), which has launched an investigation, confirmed that Mr Macia was found dead in his police cell at 9.15pm.

Gaga's fury at Kim Kardashian for 'stealing her designer'

Lady Gaga is reportedly in a rage after learning Kim Kardashian  has poached her designer.

While the singer is convalescing following hip surgery, it’s claimed Kim has been busy convincing Nicola Formichetti to work for her.

The reality TV star apparently bombarded Gaga’s collaborator with emails and even took a last-minute flight from Miami to New York to meet up with him.
And her efforts have paid off, according to US reports.

It’s alleged the Poker Face chart-topper – who was forced to axe the remainder of her Born This Way Ball tour after a case of joint inflammation condition synovitis left her unable to walk – has not taken well to Kim encroaching on her territory.

A source told Ahlan! mag: “Gaga was fuming when she discovered Nicola was working with Kim.

“She’s fiercely protective of the people she works with and she’s always been determined to have Nicola all to herself.”
