A woman was gunned down by police yesterday after ramming a White House barrier with her young daughter in the car. According to reports the woman thought President Obama was stalking her, law sources said today.

A female suspect tried to ram the gates of the White House with a car today before multiple shots were fired.

Carey's 18-month-old daughter Erica - who was in the back seat - was not injured, despite the Secret Service and U.S. Capitol police firing up to 15 shots into her car.
Little Erica was rescued from the bullet-riddled car after her mother was shot dead. She is currently in the custody of child services workers.

The suspect is believed to have been 'neutralized', according to reports, and one police officer injured during the attack in the political heart of Washington D.C.
The shots were fired around 2pm (ET) on Thursday following a car chase that ended on Capitol Hill. Officers were seen swarming the scene with machine guns as hundreds of staffers and tourists fled in panic.

Investigators have found indications that Miriam Carey suffered delusions due to a history of mental illness, NBC Connecticut reports.

Last night her mother revealed the 34-year-old has suffered from postpartum depression since giving birth to her daughter Erica last year.

These revelations are the first clues as to what led a seemingly happy dental hygienist to snap and drive her Infiniti luxury sedan 270 miles from her home in suburban Stamford to Washington, DC - where her rampage put the nation's capital on lock-down Thursday.

Six or seven gunshots were heard by Members of Congress while they were on the Capitol balcony coming from near the House office buildings.
Journalists, congressional staffers and tourists had been ordered to take shelter on the complex or at the US Supreme Court building.

Police were securing the area after tourists were reportedly 'told to run'. People standing outside the Supreme Court across the street from Congress were hurried into the court building by authorities.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who was preparing to do an interview with CNN, told the news outlet that he has heard of one injury.
