IT was a state of pandemonium at the Kwara State Polytechnic bus stop along Murtala Muhammed way otherwise known as the Fleet Street, as commercial and other social activities were on Monday paralyzed in Ilorin metropolis following protest by students of the Kwara State Polytechnic whose colleague was allegedly shot by Police escort of one of the leading banks.
The incident which occurred at about 2.10pm threw the entire popular Muritala Mohammed way, Post area and other environs in disarray as motorists were prevented from moving while burn-fire was set on the major roads by the aggrieved students.

A source, Abodunrin John disclosed that: “The student was inside a taxi cab when the bullion belonging to one of the foremost bank which was hurriedly blowing siren for free passage stopped the vehicle and attempted to shot its tyre.

“Unfortunately for the student, Ahmed Dayo of ND 1 in the department of Accounting, instead of the bullet to destroy the tyre, it went straight to him in the vehicle and the leg was seriously damaged.”

The Graphic revealed that the bullion van does not make any attempt to rescue the ill-fated student as the driver and other policemen therein zoomed-off to escape the mob of students who took to the streets.

The victim was immediately taken a nearby private hospital, Ayodele Medical Centre while he was only given First Aid treatment and was later referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for adequate medical attention.
When contacted, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Agboola Glover- Oshodi said they are trying to calm the situation, the police man has been arrested and the law will take its course.
