As Lagos State government moves to
further strengthen the Road Traffic Law, commercial bus drivers and
conductors will soon begin to wear uniform and badges.
Besides, owners of such buses will have
their identities aboard the vehicles. This is part of the revelations by
the state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, while
briefing journalists on the activities of the ministry in the last 365
days.
Again, the commercial bus drivers must
be re-certified by attending the drivers’ institute, where they will
undergo comprehensive tests - including vision and driving tests.
The Chairman, National Union of Road
Transport Workers, Lagos State branch, Mr. Tajudeen Agbede, reacting to
this development, said the union would always support the government
in its efforts to actualise the contents of the Road Traffic Law, which,
he noted, aim at saving lives and ensuring sanity on Lagos roads.
He stated, “We are always in support of
government by making sure our members obey the Road Traffic Law. It is
for the good of everyone in the state.”
