The South African Police Service (SAPS) has released
facial composites in an attempt to identify the two suspects in the murder of
Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa in Vosloorus on Sunday evening. The SAPS released two facial composites of the men who killed the Orlando
Pirates glovesman at Kelly Khumalo’s house on Johannesburg's East Rand.
The SAPS on Monday announced a basic description of the
suspects, who are estimated to be in their late twenties or early thirties,
with one being tall and slender, while the other is short and well-built.
“We believe that the people in the community will know
who these suspects are,” police spokesman Neville Malila said on
Johannesburg-based eNCA television. “These photos were compiled with the help
of witnesses that were at the crime scene and now it is up to the community.”
Malila didn’t immediately answer calls to his mobile phone seeking comment.
Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega told reporters in
Johannesburg Monday a multidisciplinary task force has been established to
investigate the murder.
Local media reported that Meyiwa's family have also hired
private investigators to conduct a parallel probe of the death.
Meyiwa was gunned down after an altercation with the
burglars at a house in Vosloorus, a township about 30 kilometres south of
Johannesburg. He will be buried on Saturday in his home town in Durban.
