Kid Cudi dropped a pretty big bomb yesterday afternoon: he's no longer on G.O.O.D. Music.
The "Girls" rapper checked in to L.A.'s Power 106 radio station Tuesday, making the announcement to on-air personalities Yesi Ortiz, and DJ Felli Fell.
Asked of how he's been treated by the label, Cudi casually responded
"Everything is cool," only to follow up the praise with news of his
departure. "I am announcing that I'm no longer on G.O.O.D, Music."
Knocking down any obligatory talk of a "Cudi vs. Kanye West"
beef, the 30-year-old said that he consulted his boss about wanting to
go in a new "direction"-- as in working his own label, Wicked Awesome.
"He got it because he's trying to start his new path and trying new
things, as an artist" Cudi explained. "He was just like 'Man I feel
you!''
Rather than jump head first into the label game, Cudi plans to keep
it small, and will focus on his artist King Chip (formerly Chip the
Ripper). Based on the speech, the Ohio native must've really thought his
plan through, and has known that the end was near for "at least" six
months now.
He also spoke with Jay-Z,
to get his opinion on how to "approach" Kanye so as not to offend his
longtime friend. In the end Yeezy was receptive to the whole thing, and
Cudi is off to blaze his on trail.
Cudi's Indicud album drops April 23.
