US Threatens To Sanction Nigeria Over Gay-Marriage Law

 

Leading western countries piled pressure on the Federal government, yesterday, following President Goodluck Jonathan’s signing of the Same-Sex Prohibition Act 2014.

The latest country is the United States of America, whose Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle threatened that  the United States will scale down its support for HIV/AIDS and anti-malaria programmes in response to the Federal Government’s position on the gay rights issue.

According to reports Michael Johnson 22, knowingly infected people with HIV.  In October, last year, Police began investigating him after one of his former lover complained he had contracted gonorrhoea and HIV, which leads to AIDS after sex with Johnson in his university dorm room. 

The victim told investigators he met Michael Johnson (aka "Tiger")through social media and the two were sexually intimate on at least two occasions. A month later, four more felony charges were filed.
The police also revealed that during their probe into the allegations against Johnson, they found 32 incriminating videos on his laptop, showing Michael with a string of more than 30 unidentified men he picked up via social media, having unprotected sex in the same university dorm room.
Police believe that Johnson's sex partners did not know that he had the HIV virus or that Johnson was filming their sexual actions.

So they have issued appeals for anyone else who was a sexual partner of Johnson to contact them to prevent an epidemic.In late May 2013, police were contacted by the victim, who stated he believed Johnson infected him with HIV. 

Although Johnson was a member of the Lindenwood University wrestling team, instances of contracting the virus in that manner are extremely rare.  However, authorities recommend anybody who had contact with Johnson consider consulting a physician.

12 Men Suspected Of Being Gay Arrested In Bauchi

 

12 men suspected of being gay have been arrested, said Chairman of Bauchi State, Shariah Commission, Mustapha Baba Ilela.

Five of the men were arraigned in Bauchi Sharia Court Thursday, and four pleaded guilty, one not guilty. The arraignment was adjourned.

BBC TV presenter Komla Dumor has died suddenly at his home in London at the age of 41, it has been announced.

Ghana-born Dumor was a presenter for BBC World News and its Focus on Africa programme. One of Ghana’s best-known journalists, he joined the BBC as a radio broadcaster in 2007 after a decade of journalism in Ghana.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan today approved sweeping changes in the nation’s military high command. 

The erstwhile Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh takes over from Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim as Chief of Defence Staff, while Major-General Kenneth Minimah replaces Lt.-General Azubike Ihejirika as Chief of Army Staff. Rear Admiral Usman O. Jibrin is the new Chief of Naval Staff. He takes over from Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba. Also, Air Vice Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu takes the baton from Air Marshal Badeh as Chief of Air Staff.

Drogba Buys 5% Stake In Ivorian Gold Mine

Ivorian soccer legend and former striker for London’s Chelsea, Didier Drogba, has bought a five per cent stake in the country’s largest gold mining company, say local press reports. 

According to the media reports carried on Friday, Drogba reportedly paid $74 million to acquire part of the state’s holding in the company. 

This sale is part of the government’s plan to offload 10 per cent of its stake to private investors. The Ivorian government had encouraged the football star to purchase the shares.

President Alassane Ouattara congratulated the star for purchasing the stake, which is up to half of the shares set aside for local private investors.
