The Nigeria Prison Service has announced that it has re-arrested 12 inmates out of the 144 that escaped from the Koton-Karfe Prisons, Kogi State, yesterday night.
Unidentified gunmen blew up the
prison with explosives late on Sunday, allowing scores of prisoners to escape. Jacob
Edi, spokesman for Kogi’s Governor Idris Wada, added: “There were 145 prisoners
at the time of the attack.
However, the prison authority through its Public
Relations Officer, Ope Fatinikun, told Punch that the 12 inmates have so far
been rearrested while the police had begun an investigation into the
jail-break.
