BBC had this to say about Tiwa Savage; It has been a momentous year for Nigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage, who has just released her debut album and been nominated at the Music of Black Origin (Mobo) awards for best African act.

Born in Lagos, she spent a large amount of her life in the UK and US and started out working as a backing vocalist for artists such as George Michael, Sting and Mary J Blige.

She has also written songs for other musicians, including Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.

The musician spoke to BBC Focus on Africa's Sophie Ikenye about how her career has taken centre stage.

According to the just released World's Most Powerful People 2013 list compiled by Forbes, CEO Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote is the World's 2nd Most Powerful Black personality, after President Barack Obama.


Dangote was placed 64th in the list while most President Barack Obama was ousted by Russian President Putin at the number one spot.

Tinubu's Daughter Is The New Iyaloja Of Lagos State

Ahmed Bola Tinubu's first daughter, Folashade Tinubu Ojo has been crowned the new Iyaloja of Lagos State and the President General of the Market Men and Women of Nigeria. 

The installation took place today at the palace of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu. Bola Tinubu's mum held the position before she passed away recently.

Another air disaster was averted at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja on Monday as a Med-View Airlines aircraft from Lagos suddenly took to the air again at the point of landing in Abuja.

The pilot told the passengers that he took to the air again to avoid a collision with another aircraft on the tarmac.

United States Senator Ted Cruz on Thursday said he did not mean to offend Nigerians when he took a jibe at the technical glitches being experienced by the website of a new US healthcare law commonly known as Obamacare. 

During an appearance in his home state of Texas this week, the Republican Party lawmaker referenced what he called “Nigerian e-mail scammers.”

18 Years Old Girl Gang Raped In Bayelsa Commits Suicide

 

The Nigerian police in Bayelsa has confirmed that an 18-year-old girl committed suicide after a gang rape by three unidentified men last week.

One of the young girl's family members, who pleaded for anonymity, said the girl was gangraped last week in Amarata, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Men have been advised to keep away from their wives’ breasts while they are breast feeding their children to avoid inflicting wounds on the breasts and exposing the children to infection.

Professor Angela Oyo Ita, the Cross River State Commissioner for Health who gave the advice while flagging- off the 2013 Breast Feeding Week at Akpabuyo local Government Area of the state on Tuesday, stated that men sharing their wives’ breasts while they are breast feeding could inflict wound on the breasts and if the woman is HIV positive, the child could be exposed to the infection.
